XCOM Media awarded International Honours

Digital agency XCOM Media has won two international honours at the 2008 W3 Awards. The global awards recognise XCOM Media’s outstanding work for Tourism Queensland.

The viral campaign and micro-site developed by XCOM Media for the Tourism Queensland ‘Open for Business’ campaign, was awarded a Silver Award for Email Marketing and a Gold Award for Marketing Effectiveness.

Director of XCOM Media, Rob Bell said the awards top of a very successful campaign for Tourism Queensland.

“The results from the campaign really speak for themselves, but it’s always great to be acknowledged for our work,” he said.

The ‘Open For Business’ campaign was created to address serious challenges being felt by Queensland tourism operators, as a result of long periods of rain leading up to the campaign launch.

The specially designed whereelse.com.au website featured a range of integrated Sunlover Holiday packages and the chance to win one of four Queensland holidays for referring the link to friends.

More than 105,000 potential holidaymakers visited the micro-site, with over 66,000 registering for Tourism Queensland’s e-newsletter. The integrated ‘forward to friend’ feature achieved an additional 180,000
visits virally.

These awards highlight the long-term strategy and commitment Tourism Queensland has in the
digital medium.

This year, the W3 Awards received over 3,000 entries from the top companies and agencies from 40 countries worldwide.

The W3 Awards honours creative excellence on the web, and recognises the creative and marketing professionals behind award winning sites, marketing programs, and video work created for the web.In honouring outstanding websites, web advertising, and web video, the W3 Awards is the first major web competition to be accessible to the biggest agencies, the smallest firms, and everyone in between.
